On marriage, Jumbotrons, and Marilyn Monroe — The 9th circuit decision on Proposition 8

In its opinion overturning Proposition 8, the referendum that took away the right of same-sex couples to marry, the Ninth Circuit Appeals Court made some striking pronouncements about the cultural and social meanings of marriage.
